QSR
Joe began working in quick service restaurants in 1968 as a junior in high school and continued throughout college and beyond advancing to the position of district manager at Burger Chef before being recruited by Burger King Corporation in 1979. He moved through the corporate ranks of Burger King holding the positions of unit manager, training manager, company district manager, and franchise district manager—what is known today in most QSRs as a franchise business consultant. As a key asset for Burger King, Joe spent time in Winston-Salem/Greensboro, the Gulf Coast regions of Louisiana & Florida, and finally franchise district manager for the entire Atlanta market.
In 1987, Joe accepted an opportunity as regional manager for Hardees and oversaw company and franchise operations throughout the Southeast, supervising 600+ units. August of 1988 brought Joe an offer of being operating partner for 13 Arby’s Restaurants in Western North Carolina with The Winning Team, Inc. Overseeing expansion, he developed two new units before focusing on developing Checkers units in Greenville, SC.
Believing in the Arby’s brand, Joe bought out the Arby’s portion of the business and relinquished his share of the Checker’s operations, and in 1995 brought in a new partner. Together they built 26 new Arby’s locations and garnered awards for sales, operations, technology, and development. Recognized as a leader in the Arby’s system Joe was elected to the franchise association board. In 2007 Joe sold his interest in The Winning Team, Inc to his partner; however, in 2009 Joe Brumit returned to the Arby’s system by buying the assets of the Winning Team, to form Brumit Restaurant Group.
